Cat Power x Kids Who Don’t Read Good

Arguably this is neither branding nor rock’n’roll, but we think the US Department Of Education’s decision to recruit indie songstress Cat Power for its ‘Let’s Read Let’s Move’ literacy campaign was inspired. As Pitchfork reports, the singer known to her friends as Chan Marshall read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein to a group of kids at a launch event, bringing a bit of rock’n’roll glamour, a parent-friendly (ish) celeb and a wonderful voice to the initiative. Now if the D Of E was smart, they’ll make sure a recording of that reading finds its way into the Power-mad blogosphere, and watch the literacy of the offspring of aging hipsters shoot up…
